You must have seen the calorie-free claims on the diet soda can because it contains artificial sweeteners, gel and fibre that aren't absorbed by the intestinal tract. The problem with the artificial sweeteners is that they confuse the brain in terms of sweetness detection, insulin signals and hunger/satiety signals. In fact, studies show that people who drink a lot of diet soda are actually the ones who gain more weight.

Spirulina gives your smoothies a protein boost and also help people who have allergies. It was found that people who had allergic rhinitis when consumed 2,000 milligrams of spirulina daily noticed beneficial effects.
